A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-.

The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, safety and other spots still glaring, the Steelers used slot 119 on Roger Rosengarten, an offensive lineman they were not exactly short of. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They banked enough surplus on Jackson to cover a lot of smaller sins. Reaching for Jacobs left real value on the table behind him.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 20 they get a sticky cover corner. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They went early on Zach Frazier in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick 84 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Maason Smith in Round 3, Pick 35 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Roger Rosengarten at offensive lineman with quarterback, safety and other spots open.
Pick178 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
A big swing on Curtis Jacobs at No. 178, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
Jha'Quan Jackson slid further than he should have, and the 195th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
