Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Harris: B. Thirty-one other rooms let Tre Harris slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at slot 233. Highway robbery. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In No. 10 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in pick 39 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in the 41st pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick72
Rnd3
Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Wyatt Milum
Steal is underselling it; Wyatt Milum at the 147th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jake Majors
Circle this one: Jake Majors at slot 193 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233
Rnd7
Tre Harris
They will replay Tre Harris at Round 7, Pick 17 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick240
Rnd7
Dylan Fairchild
You do not let an offensive lineman like Dylan Fairchild reach pick No. 240 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick249
Rnd7
Bryson Nesbit
Fair-plus on Bryson Nesbit, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick255
Rnd7
Lander Barton
Lander Barton at the 255th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
