The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: B-. The Bears spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Frazier at that price is a win they earned. If Laumea pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams at Round 1, Pick 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In slot 9 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
They barely believed it either: Zach Frazier still on the board at No. 75. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
They took Tyrone Tracy Jr. at par in pick 122, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick144
Rnd5
Sataoa Laumea
They went early on Sataoa Laumea in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
