GM Anderson DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears robbed the room for Mafah. Final grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Phil Mafah tumbling to the Bears in the 244th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Jackson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mason Graham
Good price on Mason Graham in pick No. 12, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tate Ratledge in No. 40. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
Nic Scourton in Round 2, Pick 11 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jake Majors
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Jake Majors worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick150
Rnd5
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in slot 150 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick203
Rnd6
Parker Brailsford
You do not let an offensive lineman like Parker Brailsford reach the 203rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick228
Rnd7
Rod Moore
Rod Moore at pick 228 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick244
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Circle this one: Phil Mafah at the 244th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
