Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB+
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took CJ Dippre a full 136 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They banked enough surplus on Mukuba to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In the 14th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at slot 43 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick51 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard at pick 51 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 116 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick139 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
Taking Hollin Pierce in No. 139 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at the 148th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick152 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
The board had Tyler Shough higher than the 152nd overall pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
Circle this one: Quincy Riley at pick 189 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick228 Rnd7 Ricky White III
They will replay Ricky White III at Round 7, Pick 10 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232 Rnd7 Nick Martin
They talked themselves into Nick Martin at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
A swing that ignored the value entirely, CJ Dippre well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
