FutureC+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Johnson: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Kaleb Johnson at Round 3, Pick 35 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If Pierce pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Jack Sawyer
In pick No. 12 they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in the 39th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick44
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon in No. 44 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in Round 3, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at the 75th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76
Rnd3
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at slot 76 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
A running back of that caliber at pick 99 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Hayden Conner
No edge and no loss on Hayden Conner in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the 148th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jared Wilson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wilson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
