Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesD+ FutureA
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Cam Jackson; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 71 spots ahead at the Round 5 slot.

Landing Bryant that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Jihaad Campbell
In pick 25 they get the heartbeat of the defense, though they paid up to get him.
Pick45 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at Round 2, Pick 13 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Kyle Kennard
Good price on Kyle Kennard in the 75th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick89 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at slot 89 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They read the board right and Charles Grant was the payoff at the 100th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jared Wilson in No. 113. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Terrance Ferguson in the Round 4 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the 138th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
They barely believed it either: Cobee Bryant still on the board at slot 147. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick160 Rnd5 Cam Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cam Jackson in Round 5, Pick 22, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in the 227th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Carson Vinson at No. 232. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Andrew Armstrong
Andrew Armstrong at pick No. 249 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick252 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
A reach on Tonka Hemingway in pick 252; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
