Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B+
ValueA-

TradesA+
FutureB-
The Bears robbed the room for Stutsman. Final grade: B+. You could see the war room lean forward. Danny Stutsman at Round 6, Pick 16 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Hayes has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In slot 15 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A tidy little value on Tate Ratledge in the 39th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick42
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at No. 42 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to pick No. 47, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick73
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
They will replay Tyler Warren at pick 73 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 10 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick191
Rnd6
Danny Stutsman
Taking Danny Stutsman in the 191st pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Steal is underselling it; Joshua Gray at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick226
Rnd7
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
You do not let an offensive lineman like Ar'maj Reed-Adams reach No. 226 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick244
Rnd7
Dayon Hayes
A big swing on Dayon Hayes at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
