jpalmer1 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers

Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Sanker: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Jonas Sanker had no business being available in pick No. 156, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Conerly Jr. lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Josh Conerly Jr.
In the 21st overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick83
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
The board had Isaiah Bond higher than Round 3, Pick 19, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 123, where Terrance Ferguson graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Nothing to complain about; Quincy Riley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229
Rnd7
Karene Reid
Taking Karene Reid in the 229th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
