Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB+
The Bears answered their biggest question with Nix. Grade: B+. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Bo Nix, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
That Zinter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. McCormick has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the 9th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick17
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In No. 17 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick18
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In pick 18 they get a passer to set the clock by, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
A quiet steal in pick No. 27: Byron Murphy II for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at slot 38 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick50
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
A reach on Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick63
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zach Frazier in the 63rd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75
Rnd3
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in pick 75 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Renardo Green slipping to slot 82 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick121
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zak Zinter at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jared Wiley
They jumped the gun on Jared Wiley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
They went early on Mason McCormick in the 131st overall pick, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
