Draft Grade — Bears

FutureC-
The Bears turned the phones into found money: B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Trey Zuhn III at the 86th pick is 100 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Landing Helm that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Spending an early pick on safety with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
By-the-book stuff, Mykel Williams at the 18th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick25
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 25 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
The board fumbled Malaki Starks all the way to No. 39, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in pick 57 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick63
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland slipping to Round 2, Pick 31 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Taking Jihaad Campbell in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Emery Jones Jr.. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86
Rnd3
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the 86th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
A want over a need in the 109th overall pick: Kevin Winston Jr. adds a safety while cornerback, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick126
Rnd4
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in pick 126 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129
Rnd4
Miles Frazier
Value said wait; Miles Frazier in pick No. 129 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick130
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went tight end with Gunnar Helm while clear needs at cornerback, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick131
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, quarterback and other spots to take Sonny Styles, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick163
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in the 163rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick179
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in Round 6, Pick 4 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jay Toia
Jay Toia at slot 211 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick256
Rnd7
Ben Yurosek
A tight end of that caliber at pick 256 is the definition of value, full stop. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
