Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC+
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Shough: C.

You build a draft on nights like this. Tyler Shough had no business being available in slot 207, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

If Sorrell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

If Nick Emmanwori and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Value with a capital V on Nick Emmanwori in pick 33, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick61 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau is a better player than slot 61 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick No. 67 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick79 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in the 79th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They will replay Jayden Higgins at the 94th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at Round 5, Pick 9 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
A reach on Jack Nelson in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
They robbed the room for Quincy Riley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick202 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
A tidy little value on Jordan Hancock in the 202nd pick, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick207 Rnd6 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in Round 6, Pick 29 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 238th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick250 Rnd7 Barryn Sorrell
A wild overpay on Barryn Sorrell in pick 250, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick257 Rnd7 Kain Medrano
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kain Medrano well ahead of where he belonged. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
