Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueA+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureC-
Grand theft in the 238th overall pick: the Commanders steal Fitzgerald and grade out a B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 119 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 20.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.

The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at pick No. 40. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick49 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in the 49th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick79 Rnd3 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in Round 3, Pick 15 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Phillips in the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick148 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at slot 148 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
A top-tier specialist at a bargain, Ryan Fitzgerald in No. 238, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick250 Rnd7 James Burnip
Taking James Burnip in the 250th pick is close to grand larceny; a specialist that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
