Emeritus DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bengals. The Bengals went off the board in a big way for Evan Anderson, 44 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Getting Simpson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In the 18th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in Round 2, Pick 17. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
They took Michael Hall Jr. at par in slot 80, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97
Rnd3
Audric Estime
Audric Estime at the 97th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick115
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
They talked themselves into Justin Eboigbe at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 149 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194
Rnd6
Trente Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Trente Jones at pick No. 194, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick214
Rnd6
Keaton Bills
Keaton Bills in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
They jumped the gun on Trevin Wallace, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
They paid sticker price for Josh Proctor in slot 237, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick238
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson at Round 7, Pick 18 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
