Draft Profile: Bio
Willie Lampkin, born January 22, hails from Lakeland, Florida. A standout at Lakeland High School, Lampkin excelled in both football and wrestling. He helped lead the Dreadnaughts to a state championship in 2018 and a runner-up finish in 2019. Lampkin's wrestling prowess culminated in a perfect 47-0 record and a 2A state championship at 285 pounds in his senior year.Lampkin's collegiate career began at Coastal Carolina, where he started 38 consecutive games over three seasons. As a freshman in 2020, he earned multiple Freshman All-America honors and second-team All-Sun Belt recognition. His sophomore campaign saw him claim second-team All-Sun Belt honors, while his junior year was capped with the Sun Belt Offensive Lineman of the Year award and first-team All-Sun Belt accolades.
Transferring to North Carolina for his senior season, Lampkin started all 11 games he appeared in on the offensive line. He earned third-team All-ACC honors while anchoring an offense that ranked 14th nationally in passing yards (299.2 per game) and 7th in total offense (491.2 yards per game). Lampkin's efforts helped pave the way for Omarion Hampton, the nation's fifth-leading rusher with 1,504 yards.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Iron man durability with 49 collegiate starts, showcasing ability to stay on the field and in the trenches
- Swiss Army knife on the O-line, demonstrating position flexibility across guard, tackle, and center
- Quick-twitch athlete for an interior lineman, bringing a wrestler's mentality to hand-fighting in the trenches
- Light feet and fluid lateral movement, tailor-made for zone blocking concepts and reach blocks
- Natural knee bender who plays with leverage, consistently getting under defenders' pads
- High football IQ, quickly ID'ing and picking up exotic blitz packages and line stunts
- Technician in combo blocks, seamlessly climbing to the second level after initial engagement
- Road grader mentality in the run game, bringing the nasty and finishing blocks through the echo of the whistle
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Severely undersized for an NFL interior lineman at 71 inches and 290 lbs, likely limiting his scheme fits and matchup potential
- Lacks ideal anchor against bull rushers, getting put on skates and driven into the pocket too often
- Tendency to play with heavy hands and lunging punch, leading to balance issues and loss of leverage mid-block
- Struggles to adjust in space, showing waist-bending and clutching when attempting to engage moving targets
- Lower body strength is a question mark, needs significant development in his base to hold up against NFL nose tackles
Scouting Report: Summary
Lampkin's technical savvy and positional flexibility could earn him a roster spot as a developmental interior lineman. His wrestling background translates well to trench warfare, particularly in zone-heavy schemes where his mobility shines. However, his severe lack of size and anchor strength are significant hurdles at the next level.Zone-blocking offenses may view Lampkin as a late-round target or priority-free agent. His ability to play multiple positions bolsters his value as a potential backup. To stick on an NFL roster, Lampkin must add significant functional strength and refine his leverage techniques to compensate for his size deficiencies.
Realistically, Lampkin profiles as a practice squad candidate with the ceiling of a backup interior lineman. His football IQ and collegiate production suggest upside, but his physical limitations may ultimately cap his NFL potential. Special teams value and continued technical refinement will be crucial for Lampkin to carve out a long-term NFL
