Draft Profile: Bio
Tyler Allgeier received no scholarship offers at the top level of college football and ended up as a was a walk-on at BYU. He played little in his first two years totaling only 78 snaps. However, in 2020 he played in 11 games and started 8 and finished the year i7th in the nation in rushing yards per carry (7.53), No. 8 in rushing yards (1,130), and No. 25 in rushing yards per game (102.7).

2021 was a huge year for Allgeier as he started 13 games and had 276 rushing attempts for 1,601 yards at 5.8 yards per attempt and 23 touchdowns. He also added 28 receptions for 199 yards at 7.1 yards per catch.
He was awarded with a spot on the Sporting News Second Team All-American team, the Phil Steele Fourth Team All-American team, and received a Pro Football Network Honorable All-America Mention.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Well-built (5-11, 220 lbs) with a thick frame and powerful lower body which keeps his legs pumping through contact. Patient behind the line of scrimmage, allowing blocks to create openings, and looks for cutback lanes with accurate vision. Hits the hole hard and runs with power to get the tough yards and a physical attitude.
  • Converted linebacker who is a very physical runner; keeps his legs churning on contact. Rarely goes down with the first hit. Lowers shoulder into defenders and shows pure determination with natural running skills to break free and stiff-arm and spin move to dodge tacklers.
  • Solid receiver in the flat, capable of running through tackles on the edge to move the chains. Flexible enough to catch passes thrown behind him.
  • Demonstrated the ability to track the ball over his shoulder. Good flexibility and balance to adjust to the poorly thrown pass. Good vision and patience for screens.
  • Underrated blocker. Cognizant pass defender who is willing to meet a linebacker in the gap.
  • Fights for extra yardage and is reliable in short-yardage situations.
  • Strong interior runner. Quickly presses the line of scrimmage and has the burst to get through the line of scrimmage and into the second level quickly. A classic North-South runner who doesn't waste time moving laterally.
  • A classic workhorse bowling ball type back that will be able to take a pounding week after week
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Too indecisive and hesitant at the line of scrimmage.
  • His speed is only average - he ran a 4.6 at the combine and it takes him a while to get going
  • Not a great cutback runner - a classic north-south back
  • Loses momentum when he gears down to change direction and it takes him a few steps to accelerate back to full speed. Appears indecisive; will dance too much at the line of scrimmage. Lacks natural playmaking ability.
  • Doesn't offer much as a blocker - will need to develop this aspect of his game if he wants to see serious playing time at the next level
Scouting Report: Summary
Tyler Allgeier is a decent pro prospect - he is a power runner who could become a solid NFL work horseback while also providing additional skills as an outlet receiver. He, however, doesn't offer a lot in the way of creativity and if his first gap isn't there he's pretty much out of options. He also lacks top-level speed and isn't particularly explosive which definitely limits his upside.
Tyler Algier currently grades out as a mid to late-round prospect - mainly due to the lack of demand for his particular skill set in the modern NFL- expect to see him selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
