Draft Profile: Bio
Micheal Clemons suffered a significant injury in high school which limited his demand from big schools so he opted to go the JUCO route and joined Cisco Junior College in Texas. At the junior college workout, he put up an outstanding 4.53 40 at 241lbs. In his season at Cisco Junior College, he averaged five tackles per game with 2.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss over six games. As a result, Cle mons was rated a three-star prospect by Rivals, rated the nation’s No. 17 JUCO recruit overall, and a four-star recruit by ESPN. The offers flowed in from SEC schools, but he opted to stay local and signed with Texas A&M.

After playing sparingly in 2017 Clemons suffered a foot injury before the 2018 season and redshirted the season. In 2020 as a senior he locked down the starting role at DE and played five games before being lost to injury. He logged 4.5 TFL's and 4 sacks on the season and served as the team defensive captain in four games.

In 2021 as a super senior he had his first complete season, and in ten games made 17 tackles with 19 stops, added a huge 46 total QB pressures and 8 sacks on the year. At the end of the season, Clemons was handed the Defensive MVP Award, the Defensive Leadership Award, and the Top Conditioned Athlete Award, while also being honored as a season team captain.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Coordinated with smooth movement skills. High-effort rusher and works through the whistle. Relentless worker, fighting off blocks and battling to the ball.
  • Outstanding athlete with good speed (although sat out the 40 at the combine), burst, outstanding length, and ideal size for a 4-3 DE
  • Has outstanding overall strength with powerful leg drive and creates outstanding leverage
  • Hands can pummel blockers - seem like they are made from granite. Easily disengages and keeps them away from his pads
  • Is very fast off the snap with an impressive first step that produces alot of power
  • Aggressive with good awareness to track the ball and attack. Tenacious, tough, competItIve and versatile.
  • Flashes strength at the point of attack with active, violent hand use. Forceful with his upper body to defeat blocks. Strong hustle player.
  • Gives effort on every play. Holds the point with length and a strong upper body.
  • Challenges inside with quickness and strong hands - with quality moves: Notably a very good sipe move as well, a well-developed rip, and a powerful dominating bull rush
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Is a bit high hipped leading to him to struggle with bend on the edge
  • Doesn't seem to display a good football IQ and often doesn't identify the play before it's too late
  • Clemons was suspended for the first game of the 2021 season after an August arrest on multiple charges, including unlawful carrying of a weapon and marijuana possession - so sometimes will strike him from their board even before scouting
  • Only average lateral movement - more of a north-south defender. Lacks some agility relies on pure power
  • Strugges in run defense - takes too long to diagnose the play. Also plays too wide leaving the interior exposed
  • Raw technique. Streaky and slow to react and can be uncontrolled and undisciplined
  • Plays too upright and has long legs which make it diffcult for him to change direction quickly
  • Not a natural bender and lacks fluid change-of-direction ability. Plays with inconsistent pad level and is often knocked backward off the snap.
Scouting Report: Summary
Micheal Clemons is an impressive athlete who possesses elite strength and outstanding speed for his 270 lbs. He also has been more than impressive as a pure pass rusher on the edge in the Texas 4-3 defense and in 2021 applied 41 QB pressures on 328 passing snaps -- that's an elite number. Clemons however is very raw as an edge rusher and plays all too often looking out of control, in addition, his instinct in the run game is sub-par along with his overall football IQ.

It's difficult to predict where Clemons will be drafted, with some scouts giving him a third-round grade while others consider him undraftable. We expect a team to ultimately overlook his prior indiscretions with the hope of harnessing his athletic talent and raw ability - and select him in the fifth or sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
