Scouting Report: Strengths
- Combines excellent power with initial quickness, but one of his best attributes are his violent hands, which Phelps uses with impressive precision.
- Phelps explodes off the line with a quick first step, with agile feet to counter inside and closing burst to finish plays.
- Tremendous explosion; accelerates low with power. Relentless blindside pursuit; tracks down ballcarriers across the field.
- He’s explosive off the line of scrimmage, showing the quickness that sets blockers back on their heels.
- Quick off the snap in the pass rush, he has violent hands and a good feel for working inside counter moves.
- Phelps has a high motor and does a solid job setting the edge against the run.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Phelps also shows some stiffness when trying to bend the edge, often getting pushed past the pocket — Phelps seems more comfortable countering back inside.
- He needs to do a better job using his hands as a pass rusher, as he too often gets neutralized by longer edge blockers.
- Phelps lacks ideal length for an edge rusher, and he’d be on the small side for the interior with a little more room on his frame to add weight
