After high school, Bertrand joined Notre Dame after being heavily recruited.In 2020 as a freshman Bertrand saw action in just 3 games and played a total of 38 snaps at linebacker for the Fighting Irish. - Bertrand has ability as a blitzer, with the length and flexibility to get around the edge.
- The talent is there as a sideline-to-sideline playmaker.
- Looks the part. Good height and a thick, muscular build. Long arms. Good overall athleticism and straight-line speed.
- Best attribute. Extreme quickness off the edge, has the flexibility to turn the corner.
- Tougher between the tackles than many expect. Fluid and quick drop into zone, covers enough ground to be Tampa-2 "MIKE" and knows where the markers are.
- Bertrand has violent hands and consistently breaks away and disengages from blockers. He’s instinctive, reading, reacting and locating the ball quickly, and finishing plays as an authoritative, wrap-up tackler.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Occasionally overruns plays due to aggressive nature. Hesitates when facing running back Blocks while rushing the passer.
- Plays too high when trying to set the edge. His motor is inconsistent.
- Lacks functional strength in the pass rush, struggling to disengage and too easily pushed past the pocket.
