Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Coordinated when moving to the second level as a run blocker, capable of landing blocks on the move.
  • Shows very good vertical speed - very quick getting to the second level in the run game
  • Has a very solid athletic physique and prototypical size for the position standing 6-3 and 332 lbs
  • Very versatile prospect who has played all 2022 at left guard and 2020, and 2021 at center
  • Shows a good initial burst after the snap, with the ability to sink his hips and generate movement. He’s a heady and savvy pass protector, capable of making calls and setting protections at the line of scrimmage.
  • Has the strength and power to handle bull rushes - anchors well
  • Avila has elite size and power, firing off the line of scrimmage and capable of creating movement in the run game.
  • His hands are outstanding has a super strong grip - latches on and doesn't let go
  • In the run game plays with elite power as a drive blocker
  • A natural knee bender who stays low and gets nice leverage in pass protection
  • Avila plays with good leverage despite his taller frame, and he’s a surprisingly good mover for his size, showing fluidity and flexibility when blocking on the second level.
  • Showing some nastiness to his game, Avila will sustain blocks through the whistle, thriving when he’s in the phone booth.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Has a habit of panicking on reach blocks, lunging, and grabbing rather than trusting his athleticism to get him in position, which could lead to flags for holding.
  • His lateral movement skills aren't elite as is his overall hip flexibility
  • is particularly susceptible to stunts - will need help laterally
  • He’ll have some trouble with quickness as a pass protector; Avila needs to make better use of his hands, and he often stops his feet once he makes initial contact as a pass protector.
  • Has shown he struggles to pick up speed rushing moves - at times he looks hesitant when facing stunts and twists.
  • Avia's quickness is a little limited as is his change of direction skills
Scouting Report: Summary
Steve Avila is a solid pro prospect who has the skills to play either guard or center at the next level. He's a monster as an inside power run blocker and is elite as a pass protector in a phone booth where his strength shows through. However, Avila's lateral movement skills are only average which means he'll fit into certain pro schemes.

Expect Avila to be a very effective pro and assuming he is selected by a team with a scheme fit - could start immediately.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
