Draft Profile: Bio
Dante Dowdell from Picayune Memorial High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Dowdell joined Oregon.

In 2023 as a freshman Dowdell saw action in 6 games for the Ducks as he ran for just 90 yards on 17 attempts for an excellent 5.3 yards per carry, with one TD, with no fumbles. As a receiver he made no receptions for no yards.

After the season Dowdell transferred to Nebraska where as a sophomore in 2024 he played in 4 games. and rushed for 251 yards on 51 carries for 4.9 ypc, with 3 TDs, with one fumble. In the passing game he pulled in just 2 receptions for 10 yards.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Well-built with a thick frame and powerful lower body which keeps his legs pumping through contact. Patient behind the line of scrimmage, allowing blocks to create openings, and looks for cutback lanes with accurate vision. Hits the hole hard and runs with power to get the tough yards and a physical attitude.
  • A big back with very good feet. He’s a decisive runner with good vision; he’ll locate his hole and get through it more quickly than you’d expect considering his size.
  • Underrated blocker. Cognizant pass defender who is willing to meet a linebacker in the gap.
  • Dowdell has the athleticism, quick feet and functional strength to set the edge and open running lanes.
  • Doesn't possess elite breakaway speed, but is fast enough to gain yardage in chunks when Dowdell finds a seam.
  • Demonstrated the ability to track the ball over his shoulder. Good flexibility and balance to adjust to the poorly thrown pass. Good vision and patience for screens.
  • Balanced runner maintains low pad level and has the power to keep moving after initial contact.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Dowdell has a tendency to seek out contact rather than avoid it. He’s not particularly creative as a runner, going north-south and trying to power through tacklers at the second level.
  • His playing speed is less than elite. Dowdell won’t run past defenders like Dowdell did at the college level.
  • He’s good in space, but he doesn’t show much nuance as a route runner; he’s not necessarily a threat when he’s flexed out.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
