Draft Profile: Bio
Cole Turner was a two-sport athlete in football and basketball at Clackamas High School, Ore where he led his team to a state championship in 2017 and three consecutive conference titles. He logged an array of honors during his school career including two first-team all-league honors and was named first-team all-state in 2017 for football. Turner was also named first-team all-league in basketball his senior year. He Led the state of Oregon in receiving in 2017 with 76 receptions totaling 1,325 yards and 20 touchdowns.
He Joined Nevada after receiving a three-star recruiting grade.

He played sparingly the first two years at Nevada but earned a starting role in 2020 as a junior where he had 49 receptions with 605 YDs and added 9TDs. He was named to the All-Mountain West First Team as a result.
In 2021 as a senior Turner played in 11 games, made 10 touchdown catches to lead all tight ends in the Mountain West, and tied for second in the nation among tight ends. He logged 677 receiving yards which was the eighth in the nation amongst tight ends and added a 110.4 QB rating when targetted. At the end of the season, he was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team and also invited to the Senior Bowl.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Good athlete with great length (6-6) and excellent top-end speed (4.7 40)
  • He has significant experience both lined up outside and inline as a traditional TE
  • When lined up is a WR Turner is a matchup nightmare for smaller corners - and dominates with impressive physicality
  • Very good football IQ - has great awareness of when his QB is in trouble and cuts short his routes instinctively
  • Has good run after catch ability and is difficult to take down as he picks up pace in the secondary
  • Elite as a pass blocker - if he was 60 lbs heavier would make a good left tackle
  • Impressive wingspan (measured in at 32 1/8), very good length, and leaping ability makes him an elite red-zone target
  • He can move the chains and has the skills to stand out in the red zone with sneaky foot speed and long stride
  • Has smooth body control, reliable soft hands, and natural ball skills to adjust to off-target throws and make impressive catches.
  • Good burst off the snap, quick hands, and good balance to gain a clean release.
  • Looks and runs like a lanky receiver. High-cut, long and lean frame. Deceptive speed and enough quickness to separate
  • Good strength and effort to run through arm tackles
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • While he has elite pass protection skills his run blocking is only average - due to his high center of gravity and lanky frame
  • Has had a couple of concentration drops as a senior but probably not significant
  • Does not have a very good short-area burst and takes a while to get to top speed
  • Despite being used heavily in the passing game as a receiver he has a shallow route tree
  • Overwhelmed by stronger defenders at the point. Long arms don't get up and extended quickly enough as a blocker.
  • Narrow upper body and needs to add bulk and strength. Runs high and doesn't sink his hips or trace precise routes.
  • Lower-body strength is questionable and limits his in-line blocking.
  • Inconsistent and not explosive with his release off the line of scrimmage
Scouting Report: Summary
Turner is a quality pro prospect and brings a lot to the game. He has elite length and impressive overall athleticism combined with very good hands, good deep speed, and leaping ability. He likely will provide a rare skill set for a team short of a dominant red-zone target.
Turner can't be recommended unreservedly however as his strength is only average which limits his impact as a run blocker.
Cole Turner could quickly become a starter at the next level and ultimately into an impact player - he'll likely hear his name called in the third or the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
