Draft Profile: Bio
Alan Ali from Timber Creek High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Ali opted to join SMU.

In 2018 as a freshman Ali saw action in 10 games and played a total of 617 snaps for the Mustangs. He allowed 6 QB hurries, no QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing most of his snaps at left guard.

As a sophomore in 2019 he played in 13 games and a total of 1051 snaps. He conceded 11 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and no sacks while playing at center.

In 2020 as a junior Ali saw action in 10 games and totaled 767 snaps. He gave up 7 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing most of his snaps at center.

In 2021 as a senior Ali saw action in 10 games and played a total of 627 snaps for the Mustangs. He allowed 8 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and no sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at center, and the rest at left tackle.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Takes much more pride in the run game, where Ali plays through the whistle with tremendous physicality.
  • Has the football IQ to handle setting protections at the line of scrimmage, and he displays excellent instincts and awareness after the snap, effectively adjusting to twists and stunts
  • Outstanding on reach blocks, showing good initial quickness and flexibility to seal the backside. He’s a heady player who is quick to recognize and react to twists and stunts up front, and he shows a good sense of timing on combo blocks.
  • Shows a good feel for combo blocks, and he displays good quickness and flexibility when moving to the second level, capable of sealing the back side on reach blocks
  • He’s a coordinated athlete who can win at the point of attack in the run game, and he can also move to consistently land blocks at the second level.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Has a bad habit of panicking on reach blocks, lunging, and grabbing rather than trusting his athleticism to get him in position, which could lead to frequent flags for holding.
  • For all of his physical gifts, often gets terribly sloppy, especially in pass protection.
  • Solid all-around prospect, but he’s not elite in any one area.
  • Is a little too much of a waist bender, and Ali doesn’t play with ideal power and functional strength. Most concerning - he often gets caught dropping his head, a bad habit that will have to be corrected.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
