The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Cowboys spent real capital to be 32 picks early on Trevor Etienne, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Marshall Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick62
Rnd2
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at pick 62 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick92
Rnd3
Shilo Sanders
They read the board right and Shilo Sanders was the payoff at slot 92. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jason Marshall Jr.
The board fumbled Jason Marshall Jr. all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jasheen Davis
They went early on Jasheen Davis in Round 5, Pick 12, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick153
Rnd5
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor in the 153rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick158
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
They liked Jaishawn Barham enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 158. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176
Rnd6
Steve Linton
No edge and no loss on Steve Linton in Round 6, Pick 16; it is a wash and a sensible one. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick190
Rnd6
Noah Daniels
Noah Daniels in pick 190 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick217
Rnd7
Korey Foreman
No drama and no debate, Korey Foreman went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick220
Rnd7
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at pick No. 220 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jalen Catalon
Nice patience on Jalen Catalon, who had no business lasting to No. 222. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
