The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Bears, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
They will answer for taking safety early while cornerback, linebacker and other spots went begging. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Williams to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Every board in the league had Orhorhoro lower, and that gap is the story.
Bottom line, with Malik Nabers leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In No. 5 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Kamren Kinchens
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a two-high chess piece at fair value. More want than need.
Pick37
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in pick 37; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
A reach on Ruke Orhorhoro in pick No. 63; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in the 75th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the 110th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cole Bishop at safety with cornerback, linebacker and other spots open.
Pick146
Rnd5
James Williams
Quietly one of the better values of the day, James Williams at the 146th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick186
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Nothing to complain about; Roger Rosengarten went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232
Rnd7
Kingsley Eguakun
Kingsley Eguakun in the 232nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
