FutureB
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. Whoever sat across the table from the Bears should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The Bears indulged a want in Bishop while a need in cornerback, linebacker and other spots stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In the 10th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick15
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a No. 1 receiver, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock in the 46th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at slot 75 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in pick No. 110; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
A surprising call. With cornerback, linebacker and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Cole Bishop, a safety they were not short of.
Pick146
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at No. 146 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick193
Rnd6
Braiden McGregor
They took Braiden McGregor at par in pick 193, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
