Cridder DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Patriots did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most.
The Loveland pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The Restrepo reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the 14th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at Round 2, Pick 6 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at the 45th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals in pick 69 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Xavier Restrepo
They jumped the gun on Xavier Restrepo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
No edge and no loss on Zy Alexander in No. 106; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
