Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA-
The Lions won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Wesley Williams in slot 256, a good 56 spots before the room expected him.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They banked enough surplus on Tiernan to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In No. 26 they get the heartbeat of the defense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis in pick 63 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91 Rnd3 Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at pick No. 91 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick118 Rnd4 Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker at the 118th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128 Rnd4 Malik Muhammad
Somehow Malik Muhammad was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
A straight-up fair deal on DeMonte Capehart at Round 4, Pick 31, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick157 Rnd5 Ephesians Prysock
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ephesians Prysock in pick 157, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd5 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams in Round 5, Pick 41 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell at the 205th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick213 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
Circle this one: Eric McAlister at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick222 Rnd7 Keyshaun Elliott
They did well to land Keyshaun Elliott in the 222nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick256 Rnd7 Wesley Williams
Wesley Williams in pick No. 256 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
