Grs107 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs

Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureB-
The Chiefs let Watson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Blake Watson, the No. 226 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 63rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe is a better player than No. 94 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in pick No. 131 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick161
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Value with a capital V on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 161st overall pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ethan Driskell
They jumped the gun on Ethan Driskell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Christian Jones
A big swing on Christian Jones at slot 175, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick209
Rnd6
Kenny Logan Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Kenny Logan Jr. at pick 209 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick252
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
