Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Taulia Tagovailoa at pick 186 is 34 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. However the rest shakes out, Dixon at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

With interior defensive lineman and running back unsolved, spending premium capital on tight end is the choice that costs them.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
They paid sticker price for Brock Bowers in No. 4, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In slot 9 they get a true top target at fair value.
Pick26 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In the 26th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in pick No. 66 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110 Rnd4 Dallin Holker
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Dallin Holker adds a tight end and leaves interior defensive lineman and running back untouched.
Pick127 Rnd4 Sincere Haynesworth
Value said wait; Sincere Haynesworth in Round 4, Pick 27 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146 Rnd5 Johnny Dixon
A cornerback of that caliber at the 146th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick186 Rnd6 Taulia Tagovailoa
A wild overpay on Taulia Tagovailoa in the 186th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232 Rnd7 Derek Wingo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Derek Wingo this early at No. 232. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
