GARRISON DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers

Grand theft in pick No. 178: the Steelers steal McCaffrey and grade out a B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Luke McCaffrey tumbling to the Steelers in the 178th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. It is not that Goncalves is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Every board in the league had Milton III lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick 20 they get a sticky cover corner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They barely believed it either: Jackson Powers-Johnson still on the board at pick No. 51. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick84
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Maason Smith at Round 3, Pick 20 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Matt Goncalves while clear needs at safety, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
A quiet steal in slot 119: Jalen McMillan for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick178
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in the 178th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
