Larceny in the 240th pick lands the Bears a B, Reed and all. Thirty-one other rooms let Jaylen Reed slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at pick 240. Highway robbery. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Reaching for Travis left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 39 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick46
Rnd2
Quinshon Judkins
This one needs a full-page explanation: Quinshon Judkins in the 46th overall pick, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A tidy little value on Tate Ratledge in the 72nd pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
They will replay Jaylin Noel at pick 118 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
A real head-scratcher, Jack Nelson in Round 5, Pick 10 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at slot 233 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at pick 240 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
