Biggs7079 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped Wiley from sliding. Grade: B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Michael Wiley had no business being available in No. 229, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Every board in the league had Sanders lower, and that gap is the story.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
By-the-book stuff, Rome Odunze at slot 8 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Jenkins. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick43
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They jumped the gun on Ja'Tavion Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick47
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick68
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 68th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at pick No. 104 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick108
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime is a better player than the 108th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
No edge and no loss on Jordan Travis in the 136th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jaylin Simpson
They robbed the room for Jaylin Simpson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick229
Rnd7
Michael Wiley
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
