Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
C
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Chiefs got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 257 on Richard Jibunor a full 60 spots early.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Getting Benson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
So much rides on Adonai Mitchell that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In slot 32 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115
Rnd4
Trey Benson
Steal is underselling it; Trey Benson at the 115th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick133
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at pick 133 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
They took Justin Eboigbe at par in No. 152, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick158
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones slipping to pick No. 158 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick179
Rnd6
Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at pick 179 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick253
Rnd7
Jalen Sundell
They reached into another round for Jalen Sundell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Anim Dankwah
Anim Dankwah at slot 254 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick257
Rnd7
Richard Jibunor
Richard Jibunor in pick No. 257 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
