Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Markel Bell at slot 69, a reach of 36 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In the 20th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. More want than need.
Pick30 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
Value with a capital V on Chris Johnson in the 44th overall pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick56 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
A reasonable price with a little left over, A.J. Haulcy in the Round 2 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick69 Rnd3 Markel Bell
Markel Bell in slot 69 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100 Rnd3 Billy Schrauth
They went early on Billy Schrauth in pick No. 100, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
They liked Bryce Lance enough to skip the value, taking him in the 112th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick177 Rnd5 Red Murdock
Red Murdock at the 177th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick180 Rnd5 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
They did well to land Kaleb Elarms-Orr in Round 5, Pick 40, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick196 Rnd6 Kaelon Black
A reach on Kaelon Black in pick 196; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick218 Rnd7 Noah Whittington
Noah Whittington in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
