Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Sarratt: D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The cost of the Stephens reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
On value alone, Sarratt makes the weekend a net positive. The Demario Davis pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 12 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Akheem Mesidor
In the 20th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Pick33
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 1. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick50
Rnd2
Christen Miller
They jumped the gun on Christen Miller, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick92
Rnd3
Treydan Stukes
Steal is underselling it; Treydan Stukes at No. 92 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112
Rnd4
Elijah Sarratt
You do not let a wide receiver like Elijah Sarratt reach slot 112 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick136
Rnd4
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens at the 136th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152
Rnd5
Skyler Gill-Howard
By-the-book stuff, Skyler Gill-Howard at slot 152 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick177
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
The board had cheaper options than Keagen Trost at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick180
Rnd5
Red Murdock
Red Murdock at No. 180 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick218
Rnd7
Kaelon Black
They paid a round early for Kaelon Black in pick 218, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
