Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA+
The Patriots found their guy under center in Nix: B. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Ford has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In pick 19 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They jumped the gun on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick67
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Corley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
They liked Michael Hall Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 80. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103
Rnd4
Graham Barton
No drama and no debate, Graham Barton went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 3. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tate Ratledge
A straight-up fair deal on Tate Ratledge at the 104th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140
Rnd5
Donovan Jackson
Fair-plus on Donovan Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141
Rnd5
Tyler Guyton
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick170
Rnd5
Mike Sainristil
They let Mike Sainristil come to them and pounced at the 170th overall pick. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
They paid up for Jaylan Ford at pick No. 181 when waiting would have done the job. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick224
Rnd7
Will Sheppard
A reasonable price with a little left over, Will Sheppard in the 224th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
