The Raiders found their guy under center in Mendoza: B-.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

Every board in the league had Harris lower, and that gap is the story. The Lawson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, running back and other spots still on the board.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Anderson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 CJ Allen
CJ Allen in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick67 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Deontae Lawson while clear needs at edge rusher, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick102 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
They took Daylen Everette at par in the 102nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117 Rnd4 Dametrious Crownover
A conviction pick on Dametrious Crownover at pick No. 117 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at pick 134 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174 Rnd5 Zane Durant
By-the-book stuff, Zane Durant at No. 174 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick180 Rnd6 Aaron Anderson
They read the board right and Aaron Anderson was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 1. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick183 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
A wild overpay on Zxavian Harris in No. 183, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick219 Rnd7 Zavion Thomas
No edge and no loss on Zavion Thomas in pick No. 219; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
