A franchise passer in Williams headlines a D weekend for the Bears.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The cost of the Trice reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
