FutureB-
The Chiefs did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Garret Greenfield in No. 173, a good 43 spots before the room expected him.
That Latham pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
JC Latham
They let JC Latham come to them and pounced at pick 32. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64
Rnd2
Jermaine Burton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jermaine Burton in pick No. 64. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick95
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
A reach for Mekhi Wingo in slot 95; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
A clean, defensible pick in No. 132 with a little surplus value in Isaac Guerendo. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick159
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick173
Rnd5
Garret Greenfield
This one needs a full-page explanation: Garret Greenfield in the 173rd overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
