FutureB+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cowboys a A-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent pick 217 on Johntay Cook, a name the board had a full 86 spots lower.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, with Jeremiyah Love leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In slot 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A reach on A'Mauri Washington in pick 59; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
No drama and no debate, Jalon Kilgore went about where he belonged in No. 112. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick141
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
You do not let a cornerback like Domani Jackson reach the 141st overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
A premium they did not need to pay, Jacob Rodriguez a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia in slot 177 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick217
Rnd7
Johntay Cook
They talked themselves into Johntay Cook at Round 7, Pick 3, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh in No. 231 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
