The Chargers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Jared Wiley, 59 picks ahead of schedule. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The veteran additions, Davante Adams chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
