FutureA+
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the B-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 6th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick12
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick 12 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 34 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cooper DeJean well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
Value said wait; Braelon Allen in Round 3, Pick 12 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Luke Lachey
They paid sticker price for Luke Lachey in the 104th overall pick, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick132
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Nothing to complain about; Tykee Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
