Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Texans worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The tape said wait; the Texans did not. James Williams went at the Round 3 slot, a good 41 picks before the board was ready.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
They took Adonai Mitchell at par in No. 33, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick36 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick39 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They reached a country mile for T'Vondre Sweat at the 39th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94 Rnd3 James Williams
James Williams in the 94th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick124 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at pick 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick143 Rnd5 Drake Nugent
No edge and no loss on Drake Nugent in slot 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in Round 5, Pick 24 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
