Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueC NeedB+ TradesA- FutureB-
A passer of the future in McCarthy, and a B, for the Vikings.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Evans pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety. On value alone, Neyor makes the weekend a net positive.

The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They did well to land Chop Robinson in pick 42, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick54 Rnd2 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk in pick No. 54 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86 Rnd3 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at No. 86 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick92 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at the 92nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick108 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Kedon Slovis
They jumped the gun on Kedon Slovis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing at slot 148 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick163 Rnd5 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They reached into another round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
No drama and no debate, Jonah Monheim went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick179 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
A conviction pick on Gabe Hall at the 179th pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick221 Rnd7 Isaiah Neyor
Isaiah Neyor in Round 7, Pick 1 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick230 Rnd7 Desmond Evans
They talked themselves into Desmond Evans at pick No. 230, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
