FutureC
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D- to match. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Van Pran has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in the 9th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick26
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Bullard. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in the 75th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
They paid sticker price for Ainias Smith in slot 111, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 123 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
