Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
D+
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Giants to a D+. The Giants clearly saw something nobody else did in Jalen Travis, taking him 68 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Landing Johnson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tetairoa McMillan
Circle this one: Tetairoa McMillan at pick 34 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in No. 65, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in slot 66 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
The board fumbled Kaleb Johnson all the way to pick No. 95, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick99
Rnd3
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in No. 119, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
They read the board right and Tyler Shough was the payoff at pick No. 154. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at Round 7, Pick 3 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
No drama and no debate, Kitan Crawford went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
