FutureA+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B. The Steelers went off the board in a big way for Bear Alexander, 34 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Steelers indulged a want in Miller while a need in edge rusher and tight end stayed open.
Pavia at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles slipping to pick 56 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick80
Rnd3
Austin Siereveld
By-the-book stuff, Austin Siereveld at slot 80 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick92
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick108
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen in the 108th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in Round 4, Pick 9 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119
Rnd4
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia at the 119th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Blake Miller in the Round 4 slot leaves edge rusher and tight end for later.
Pick133
Rnd4
Eugene Wilson III
No edge and no loss on Eugene Wilson III in pick 133; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A reach for Davison Igbinosun in Round 5, Pick 20; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Value with a capital V on Drew Allar in No. 168, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen at slot 213 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick214
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 214th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick219
Rnd7
Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci at pick No. 219 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick225
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
They talked themselves into Bear Alexander at the 225th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick235
Rnd7
Khalil Barnes
Khalil Barnes at Round 7, Pick 20 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
