Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Steelers a B. Whoever sat across the table from the Steelers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The cost of the Campbell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Lew falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Steelers indulged a want in Chaplin while a need in edge rusher, cornerback and other spots stayed open.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value.
Pick52
Rnd2
Germie Bernard
No drama and no debate, Germie Bernard went about where he belonged in pick No. 52. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They robbed the room for Connor Lew here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick84
Rnd3
Xavier Chaplin
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to take Xavier Chaplin, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick119
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 119 on Chase Bisontis with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots unsolved.
Pick120
Rnd4
Diego Pavia
Steal is underselling it; Diego Pavia at the 120th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at pick 133 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick160
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
They reached a country mile for DJ Campbell at slot 160, and the board is aghast. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick213
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A real head-scratcher, Trey Zuhn III in pick 213 is miles ahead of his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick214
Rnd6
Mark Fletcher Jr.
They did well to land Mark Fletcher Jr. in pick No. 214, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd7
Drayk Bowen
Drayk Bowen in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick235
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at No. 235 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
