wyatt DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears answered their biggest question with McCarthy. Grade: B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They will need Barner to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In the 9th pick they get a long-term answer under center, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Blake Corum
They paid up for Blake Corum at pick 75 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122
Rnd4
AJ Barner
AJ Barner at the 122nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
